چکیده
This paper gives an overview of the ongoing METRA project that concerns the study of Multi-element Transmit and Receive Antennas. The outcome of this project will impact the continuous standardization process of third generation systems in forums such as the 3 Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

METRA Project Results : TDD Mode of UTRA
Employment of multi-element antenna arrays at both transmit and receive sites is capable of enormous theoretical capacity over wireless communication systems. In this paper we present performance results ( applied to the TDD mode of UTRA) for different space-time coding strategies compared to the standardised beamforming. Channel reciprocity can be used in the TDD mode of UTRA to construct a be...
متن کاملSpace-frequency Block Coded-joint Transmit/receive Diversity for Multi-carrier Transmission
Space-frequency block coded transmit diversity (SFBC) is under intensive study to improve the transmission performance of multi-carrier transmission in a frequencyselective fading channel. However, in the conventional SFBC, the transmission efficiency degrades when more than 3 transmit antennas are used. Recently, we proposed a spacetime block coded-joint transmit/receive antenna diversity (STB...
متن کاملUsing Asterisms to Decode Multi-User MIMO Systems
The area of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) communications systems has received enormous attention recently as they can provide a roughly linear increase in data rate by using multiple transmit and receive antennas. MIMO combined with an Turbo coding has been shown as a promising way to achieve near capacity for wireless channels. This paper proposes applying an Asterism based decoder to ...
متن کاملEffects of Signals Clustering on the Capacity of Indoor Mimo Channels
1. Introduction The multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technique incorporating space-time coding is a candidate for the next generation high performance wireless communication systems. The MIMO technique employs multiple-element antennas to establish spatial subchannels to improve spectrum efficiency. The promised increase in channel capacity by MIMO is possible only if rich-scattering is present ...
متن کاملSimplified processing for high spectral efficiency wireless communication employing multi-element arrays
We investigate robust wireless communication in high-scattering propagation environments using multi-element antenna arrays (MEA’s) at both transmit and receive sites. A simplified, but highly spectrally efficient space–time communication processing method is presented. The user’s bit stream is mapped to a vector of independently modulated equal bit-rate signal components that are simultaneousl...
